ALTERNATIVE and CalWORKS CHILD CARE PROGRAMS

The Alternative Payment Program and CalWORKS are state and federally funded programs which provide child care for low income, working families in a setting of the parent’s choice. The child care can be provided in private licensed centers, licensed family child care homes, or in a licensed-exempt home that meet the state and federal guidelines.

The Alternative Payment Program funds child care for low income families who are working and/or going to school. The program serves children birth through 12 years of age in licensed child care centers, with licensed exempt providers, and license family child care homes. Parents choose the care that best meets their needs in communities throughout Mono County.   Certification of services and family enrollment into the program is based on eligibility as defined by the California Department of Education (CDE).  Eligibility is reviewed at least every 12 months and more frequently as deemed necessary by IMACA. A fee, if applicable, is based on the Family Fee Schedule issued by the CDE.

CalWORKS families remain eligible for Stage 2 child care for 2 years after they no longer receive cash aid. After 2 years, they go into Stage 3 child care.  Stage 3 is provided by Children's Services Unit. Families can stay in the program until their income reaches 75% of the state median income or for 24 months (2 years).

LICENSE EXEMPT PROJECT

The project focus is to recruit, train and support licensed-exempt providers.  By improving the quality of home-based children and children will be prepared for successful school experiences. IMACA CCC gives orientations, trainings and technical assistance to license-exempt providers.  Trainings will be on: health and safety, playing is learning, nutrition and positive discipline.
